A Hydrangea Dream at Whitehall Manor
Quickly dubbed “The Hydrangea Wedding,” I bought every limelight hydrangea in the DMV and Eastern Shore. Seriously. I had five local flower farms hold back all of their limelights for this wedding. We ended up with about 1,600, and they were so voluminous, I had one farmer deliver 400 blooms straight to the venue to save on truck space. And it was all worth it!! I love using one flower en masse- it creates a stunning moment for our clients and their guests.

Lindsay and Steve’s wedding weekend took place in picture-perfect September weather, under a sailcloth tent at Whitehall. It was an absolute dream from start to finish.
Built in 1764 before the start of the American Revolution, Whitehall is owned and operated by a non-profit foundation whose mission is to preserve the house and grounds. With over 115 acres of gardens, fields, and parklands, the house is set on a mile and a half of Chesapeake Bay shoreline and is one of the last significant open waterfront spaces in Annapolis. Whitehall stands proudly along the banks of Meredith Creek, Whitehall Creek, and Whitehall Bay. This beautifully and lovingly restored National Historic Landmark offers an unparalleled backdrop for weddings. We felt lucky to be there. {from http:whitehallmd.com}
Guests arrived at the front of the manor and climbed the vine-covered stairs. Once in the foyer, they were treated to the spectacular view of the landscape rolling into the Chesapeake Bay, with the sailcloth reception tent in the background and the ceremony below. We adorned the venue’s existing 250+ year-old urns with oversized garden-style arrangements, leading the way into the ceremony. We lined the aisle and created an arch with hundreds of limelight hydrangeas, all locally grown by our flower farmer friends.
Following the ceremony, guests were treated to cocktail hour complete with an oyster bar. Wedding planner Caitie Hanrahan created a custom escort display with oyster shells that we complemented with an oversized, lush garden urn arrangement. Guests were invited to hit golf balls (made of fish food!, so cute) into the Bay.
In the reception, we alternated using limelight hydrangeas and then more garden-style arrangements to create a fun and luxurious atmosphere for their guests. Guests were greeted by a grand tent entrance and then led into the sailcloth tent to enjoy the live band, food, and of course, gorgeous blooms and candles.
