Built in 1920, the Meridian House is considered to be one of the finest examples of French architecture in the United States. The classical symmetry of the Louis XVI style is reflected throughout the house, which contains original statues, tapestries, and paintings. Located a mile and a half north of the White House, The Meridian House offers a respite from busy DC and a treat for wedding guests to enjoy the space.
Colleen and Matt wanted to embrace the best of late autumn in their florals. We highlighted the last of the turning foliage with deep, moody colors of plum, burgundy, and mauve blooms, including ranunculus and cafe latte garden roses.
The ceremony was set in the garden amongst a background of gold ginkgo trees. We created a deconstructed ground arch around the focal point tree. We designed it to look as natural as possible and complement the tree’s exposed roots.
Following the ceremony, guests moved to the pebbled courtyard, home to 40 linden trees which were imported from Europe over 100 years ago when the mansion was built.
After cocktail hour, guests entered the two main reception spaces to enjoy a plated dinner. In the green library, we alternated compote arrangements with chic little lamps and votive candles on long tables. Through the stately doorway, the reception extended into the following room. Here, we repeated the compotes for continuity and added centerpieces with pillar candles and cutie bud vases.
While the guests were enjoying cocktail hour, we repurposed the ceremony arrangements in front of the band. Soon, ties were loosened and shoes discarded as guests danced the night away.
