Stephanie and Jake said I do at a Friday evening ceremony followed by a cocktail reception in the Larz Anderson House, a Gilded Age mansion located in DC’s Dupont neighborhood. All during Hurricane Ian! But honestly, you would never know. We all just pretended it wasn’t raining and the wedding turned out beautifully.
The couple wanted a modern, minimalist, and timeless wedding. We chose reflexed roses in white and sand colors, orchids, baby’s breath, and “irithurium” hand-painted anthurium by Haus of Stems. I was so impressed that Stephanie asked for these by name!
The ceremony took place in the soaring ballroom. Guests were greeted by large urn arrangements on pillar stands with overflowing floral arrangements. Stephanie descended the marble staircase, which we decorated with baby’s breath and reflexed roses, before walking down the aisle and greeting her soon-to-be husband under the floral accented chuppah. A grand entrance indeed!
While the guests were in cocktail hour, we flipped the space for the reception by moving the urn arrangements in front of the fireplace and decorating the cocktail tables with candles and chic bud vase arrangements. In the Winter and Hoyt Garden, we alternated low and lush compote arrangements with modern vase arrangements at the seated guest tables. Romantic taper and votive candles completed the tablescapes.
Around the reflecting pool, in front of the 300-year-old Japanese Buddha, we placed pillar candles and modern ground arrangements to highlight the pool. The garden is home to DC’s oldest magnolia trees, which helped shield the guests from the intermittent rain showers.
They ended the night with a late-night outfit change and McDonald’s. Perfection.
