Sailcloth Tented Wedding at Family Estate

It was all about the autumnal tones and textures for Marisa and Tad’s fall wedding. Marisa wanted to highlight the beautiful grounds of the estate, overlooking Gunpowder River, and pay homage to the family’s hunting background- tastefully! Her three (ok, five) words to describe her wedding vibe were: timeless, whimsical, autumnal, classic, and hunt-club.

The wedding palette was warm, neutral, earthy tones with beigey taupe. Marisa loves dried limelight hydrangeas, so I started collecting and drying them all fall for her late October wedding. I had so many drying that I even had to store some in a farmer friend’s basement! I used the hydrangeas as the base of the arch, aisle arrangements, and centerpieces. And accented them with butterfly ranunculus, dahlias, cosmos, lisianthus, zinnias, and autumnal foliage.

We built the ceremony deconstructed arch on site so it looked as if it were growing there naturally. Then we added potted grasses, mums, and baskets overflowing with dried hydrangeas to the back of the aisle. I love creating ceremony spaces where there is something in the background, in this case an arch, and then lush arrangements in the foreground. This composition frames the couple perfectly for their “I do’s” and sets the tone for the wedding as guests arrive. They knew they were in for a gorgeous and thoughtful wedding when they were greeted with these bountiful arrangements overlooking the river.

The cocktail hour was under a group of trees as the sunset. Then the guests headed to the sailcloth-tented reception. For centerpieces, we alternated between lush compotes, lanterns, bud vases, and of course lots of candles. We repurposed the ceremony arrangements around the sweetheart table.

Guests partied the night away and enjoyed one of the last fall evenings of the season.
